Select Grade

Recommend for clear and light finishes

Select Grade Ash, Hard Maple and White Birch Select Grade Ash, Hard Maple and White Birch will allow only the sapwood of these species on the faces of panels, frames, plywood and solid inserts. Although it is the nature of fine hardwoods that some color variation will always be present, the pieces that are chosen for the panels and frames for this grade will be selected and matched for maximum color uniformity. Character markings such as pin knots and mineral will be fewer and less pronounced than the Custom Grade. Only very slight occurrences of the heartwood in the machined areas are acceptable.

Select Grade Cherry, Red Birch, Walnut, Red Oak and White Oak Select Grade Cherry, Red Birch, Walnut, Red Oak and White Oak will allow only the heartwood of these species on the faces of panels, frames, plywood and solid inserts. Although it is the nature of fine hardwoods that some color variation will always be present, the pieces that are chosen for the panels and frames for this grade will be selected and matched for maximum color uniformity. Character markings such as gum pockets, pin knots and mineral will be fewer and less pronounced than the custom grade. Only very slight occurrences of the sapwood in the machined areas are acceptable. Cherry with clear and light finishes will darken with age.

Both Clear White Pine and Mahogany Both Clear White Pine and Mahogany display even grain patterns and texture. Even through there is no clear distinction between heartwood and sapwood with these species, there will be some color variation with the yellows, tans and whites of the Pine and the browns and red brown of Mahogany. Very occasionally these woods will show sap streaks and color streaks.

Plywood Grade

For veneer panel doors.

The core material for 1/4” and ˝” thick plywood is medium density fiberboard, MDF. The veneer faces are A grade, plain sliced and book matched with matching species back. The same grade plywood is used for both CUSTOM GRADE and SELECT GRADE plywood insert doors, DPP and DMDF.

The color of the plywood used in doors will not always match the color of the solid wood frames. Although we strive to minimize this difference, the variation is considered acceptable.

While all plywood conforms to the formaldehyde emission standard, ASTM E 1333-90, it cannot be considered formaldehyde free.
